Volunteer with us

Join our dedicated team to gain valuable experience, build lasting friendships, and make a real difference.

Volunteering with Kildare Wildlife Rescue is a hugely rewarding experience.
We rely heavily on volunteers to continue the work that we do. Volunteers can expect to learn new skills, make new friends and get the personal satisfaction of giving something back. It is an absolute privilege to witness some of our native wild animals at their most vulnerable and to be involved in their recovery and return to the wild.

What can I do as a volunteer?

Entry level roles

Looking to get involved? We offer a range of volunteer opportunities. Some of the roles you might start with include:

  • Onsite support volunteer
  • Receptionist
  • Maintenance Team
  • Events Team

Progression Opportunities

As you gain experience, there are opportunities to advance into roles such as:

  • Wildlife First Responder
  • Onsite animal carer
  • Email team
  • Education team

These progression roles require prior experience to ensure both the safety of the animals and the confidence of our volunteers. Starting in an entry-level role is a valuable way to build the knowledge and skills needed for these exciting opportunities.

What our volunteers say

Vivienne, Centre Volunteer

I began volunteering with KWR earlier this year and can safely say it is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I never expected to have the time or the opportunity to work with wildlife and with sometimes only a few hours to spare on a weekend, I wasn’t sure if I could contribute much. However I quickly discovered that even a few hours a week can be a huge help when the centre is caring for hundreds of animals. The training I have received and the support I have been given as both a centre volunteer and occasional responder in the field have been second to none. I have fulfilled a lifelong dream of working closely with wildlife and I’m glad I took the step and didn’t put it off for another day.  Helping to rescue, rehabilitate and release so many amazing creatures has shown me that everyone can make a difference!
