Wildlife Carer - Part-Time Position at Kildare Wildlife Rescue Centre

We are delighted to have the opportunity to offer a part-time paid position as a Wildlife Carer in KWR Centre. This position is offered for a 12 month period and will be reviewed periodically. As this opportunity was made possible thanks to a grant from Heritage Organisations Support Fund 2025, the successful candidate will be required to document their work and its impact for review by The Heritage Council.

Position Details

  • Title: Wildlife Carer
  • Start date: Immediate
  • Duration: 12 months
  • Pay: €15 per hour
  • Total amount of funding allocated for the 12 month period:  €20,000
  • Hours and schedule: Flexible. There will be an estimated 100 - 110 work hours a month available for this position. Shifts will be scheduled at least a week in advance.
  • Type of payment: The successful candidate will be on KWR's payroll, details of gross vs net salary and annual leave TBC
  • Location: Kildare Wildlife Rescue, Grey Abbey Rd, Greyabbey, Kildare, R51 X338

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Daily care of animals at the Kildare Wildlife Rescue centre
  • General upkeep of the centre and its immediate surroundings
  • Admissions of new patients from both members of the public as well as KWR Response volunteers
  • Liaising with fellow volunteers, Shift Leaders, Manager and GreyAbbey staff to ensure best practice and care at all times
  • Training and guidance of KWR interns, including but not limited to - check-ins, paperwork, extra support

Daily Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Daily cleaning and maintenance of cages, pens and outdoor enclosures
  • Identifying and reporting any issues with an animal's general health
  • Daily feeding duties of animals in KWR's care
  • Food preparations and general stock keeping
  • Daily dealings with the larger KWR team such as Wildlife First Responders and the Help Desk

Requirements

  • Previous experience working or volunteering with wildlife
  • Strong commitment to animal welfare and wildlife conservation
  • Able to work independently as well as part of the team
  • Able to follow instructions and unafraid to seek guidance when unsure
  • Able to work under pressure while maintaining a calm demeanor
  • Good communication skills both in person and on messaging apps such as WhatsApp, maintaining polite and respectful communication with fellow volunteers, GreyAbbey staff as well as members of the public at all times
  • Adheres to KWR's protocols, policies and guidelines, maintains professional working environment
  • Able to perform physically demanding tasks safely, on a daily basis and in all weather conditions, indoor and outdoor
  • Tetanus shot is required for anyone working with animals
